LOVERRO: Cash-starved, payroll-shedding Nationals primed for miserable season

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo was fortunate enough to find some change in the cushions of the couch in his office -- perhaps leftover from the last time owner Mark Lerner was in the building -- and used the found money to drive by 7-Eleven to pick up another player. LOVERRO: Wentz fiasco, Browns loss should seal Rivera’s fate

The decision to sit Heinicke in favor of Wentz is reason enough to fire Rivera. But add to that the bizarre postgame comments, in which Rivera seemed surprised that because of the loss to the Browns, his team faced playoff elimination if the Packers defeated the Vikings later that day. LOVERRO: Among those who faced him on the court, Bird’s legacy undeniable

In a 1997 interview with sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, when asked to select the greatest players they had ever seen other than themselves, Wilt Chamberlain picked Bird. Russell selected Bird third after Magic and Jordan -- not Oscar Robertson, who he played against, but Bird. Published December 12, 2022

LOVERRO: Rivera’s coaching shakeup now looks like the right move

Given the dominant performance of this defensive line, my money for the Commanders' turnaround is on the day Ron Rivera announced he was firing his longtime coaching colleague Sam Mills III and replaced him with assistant defensive line coach and 17-year NFL veteran Jeff Zgonina. Zero was no hero: Honoring Gilbert Arenas is a franchise low mark

The franchise whose name was changed by the late owner Abe Pollin in 1997 because "the name 'Bullets" is no longer appropriate for a sports team is now honoring a player who celebrated guns and bullets so much he brought them into Pollin's building. Published November 17, 2022
