VERSAILLES, Ky. — Zenyatta, the 2010 Horse of the Year, has delivered her last foal with her broodmare career ending.

She delivered a filly at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky on Friday night, according to her website.

“The foaling was filled with ease and elegance and both mom and baby are in excellent health and exude happiness,” a post on the site Zenyatta.com said. “Zeny’s new filly has legs for days and sports a blaze to match her mother’s.”

The post said, “This will be Zenyatta’s last foal as she is being retired as a broodmare.”

Among those at the foaling was co-owner Ann Holbrook, who campaigned Zenyatta with her former husband, A&M Records co-founder Jerry Moss.

The 19-year-old mare won 19 of 20 career starts from 2007-10 while based at Santa Anita in California. Her biggest moment came in 2009 when she beat 11 males to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Zenyatta wasn’t nearly as successful in the breeding shed despite mating with some of the top male stallions of the era.

She has just four registered foals. Her first two foals, Cozmic One and Ziconic, never won in their racing careers. Her other two, Zellda and Zikha, never raced. She also lost two offspring and aborted another one.
